Hello, and welcome to the first Adoption Choices of Nevada blog. We are Jo and Maire from Adoption Choices of Nevada. Jo is the Social Services Director in Las Vegas and Maire is the Executive Director for Nevada and supervises the office in Reno. In these roles, it is our privilege to work with both birth and adoptive parents. Together, we have been involved with adoption for over 50 years. We are committed to a professional, non-judgmental approach to adoption and have a true passion for the work we do.
The purpose of this blog is to provide birth parents, adoptive parents, and anyone else thinking about adoption with an opportunity to learn about subjects that are important to them. We will be blogging twice a month and welcome your feedback. Please feel free to write to us about subjects that are important to you and/or topics needing more information.
Some of the topics, in future blogs, will be Birth Parents Post Placement Visits, Openness in Adoption, How Involved Should Birth Parents be in the Adoptive Family’s Life; Bonding with your Baby; and How to talk to your Child about Adoption.
We believe the adoption of a child is a “Shared Gift” between the birth and adoptive parents.
Wherever you are in your adoption journey, our commitment will be to walk with you every step of the way. We will guide you through this very precious journey.
We hope our blog will make you more comfortable with some of the feelings that you have. Please feel free to contact us if there you want to talk about your situation and have questions.
If you want to know more about us, please visit the website for more information. Thank you for visiting our website and our blog. We look forward to providing you with information regarding the adoption journey.
Celebrating Birth Mother’s Day
In May we celebrate ALL Mothers. On May 13, 2017, we celebrate and honor birth mothers who have made the loving and courageous plan of adoption. On May 14, 2017, we celebrate Mother’s Day, which for some, would not be possible if not for the strength of another woman who made the most difficult decision a parent may ever have to make. Her reasons for making an adoption plan are personal, intimate and as unique as she is. She will always be considered the “first mother.”
At Adoption Choices of Nevada in Reno, we will be honoring Birth Mothers for Birth Mother’s Day at our Monthly Support group in our office on Wednesday, May 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm. Please contact 775-825-HOPE for more information.
At our office in Las Vegas, we hold the Birth Parent Support Group every other month; the next dates are June 30, 2017 and August 25, 2017. Future dates will be posted on the blog.
