Mother’s Day Gifts for Your Gestational Carrier
Well, it’s that time of year once again! We’ll soon be celebrating the women who made it their business to take care of us. For the month of May, Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Reno is honoring these amazing individuals – those we call Mom!
This week, we’ll be focusing on the champions who make motherhood and fatherhood possible for those who can’t do it themselves: gestational carriers. There’s no doubt that these women are the true essence of the word “selfless,” and it may come as a surprise to you that they are often overlooked on Mother’s Day. This week, we’ll be discussing gifts for your gestational carrier.
During Her Pregnancy
There are some gifts that, while nice, are not the best for a pregnant woman. Where you would normally give a bottle of wine alongside a cheese platter (or something of the like), you’ll have to be creative and come up with an alternate gift. One that is more conducive to pregnancy. A great way to do this is to look at gifts that can enhance your gestational carrier’s comfort.
As you likely know, a pregnant woman’s feet and ankles swell and become painful during pregnancy. Some gifts that you can get to help ease this discomfort are:
- Foot baths
- Compression socks
- Foot rollers
You can also look into sleep aids. A body pillow is always a nice choice, as is a weighted blanket.
If you enjoy the element of surprise, you can always order some of these items off Amazon and have them sent directly to her home. It’s a fun way to give a gift, and it also promotes social distancing!
Spa Treatments
It’s no secret that with pregnancy comes discomfort. Gestational carriers are no exception to this rule. They have the distinct pleasure of dealing with morning sickness, aches, pains, and stress. So, what better way to help your gestational carrier than to treat her to a relaxing spa day? There’s a reason why the spa is often a sought-after stress reliever – it works!
If you’re wanting to help support a local business, there are quite a few that you can choose from. There’s Steamboat Hot Springs, to start. While they are a bit pricey, it is worth the cost. They offer many packages that include massages, mineral baths, mud treatments, etc. They also offer gift cards, so your gestational carrier can choose the package or treatment she would most enjoy.
**Please note! There are some treatments that may not be safe for pregnant women, so a gift card may be most sufficient!**
Dolce Vita Wellness Spa is also a good choice! Their current Yelp review is a 4.5 out of 5.0, and they offer many different services including foot soaks, various kinds of facials and plenty of packages as well.
Unfortunately, with COVID-19 having reared its very ugly head, it may be awhile before anyone is able to enjoy the benefits of leaving the house for a spa day. So, you can do the next best thing – make a spa-themed gift basket. You can usually find some decent options at your local grocery or nearest Wal-Mart.
Gifts for Her AND Her Family
By now, you know that, for a woman to become a gestational carrier, she will likely have to have given birth successfully once before. Many have families of their own at home. So why not treat them all to something special? There are a plethora of ideas that you can dream up. Since we’re all practicing social distancing, gift baskets are probably the best way to show your appreciation. If your gestational carrier has small children, you can include toys or mentally stimulating games. Some items for a date night with her and her spouse or partner may be a nice surprise, too.
It may be harder to pick a gift for your gestational carrier if you’re at the beginning of your journey together. That’s okay! Use your best judgment.
Include Her
Your gestational carrier is going to be in your life for a pretty substantial amount of time. You’ll form a bond with her that you’ll be unlikely to recreate again. The relationship you share with your gestational carrier is an incredibly special one, and you’ll likely find yourself wanting to share other aspects of your life with her. Invite her to have lunch with you. See a movie with her on your dime. Let her know that she is welcome to the other aspects of your life – not just as your gestational carrier. She’ll appreciate the gesture, and your relationship will blossom.
Mother’s Day
At the end of the day, you want your gestational carrier to know they have just as much reason to celebrate being a mother. Helping them find comfort more easily is a great way to do this. Spoil them a little!
As we mentioned before, we will be spending the entire month of May celebrating moms. Next week, we’ll be discussing what gifts you can get for intended parents.

Support Adoption Choices
Adoption Choices, Inc. is partnering with Crowdrise, a fundraising website for nonprofits, to help our adoptive parents and birth parents with much needed financial assistance. We understand that expenses keep clients from fulfilling their dreams. Both with birth parents making a plan for adoption, and with adoptive parents growing their family. It is our mission to provide financial assistance through grants and scholarships, awarded annually in November, in honor of National Adoption Month. Funds assist adoptive parents with matching and placements, adoption finalization and helping birth mothers improve their lives through higher education — and much more.
However, we can’t do it alone. Please read up on our programs and donate money where you are able. Your donation will make a huge impact.
