Having a Baby After Placing One for Adoption

By Tyra Watts

The adoption process can make the birth mother feel an array of emotions. You made a decision that was best for you and your child. And you might feel happiness for that or sorrow. Adoption is a complex process that not many birth mothers can go through. But the fact that a woman was able to place baby for adoption is to be proud of. Regarding post-adoption plans, many birth mothers have questions. For example, “Am I able to see my child?” or “Can I adopt back my child?“.

A question that comes up is whether birth mothers can have a family of their own after choosing adoption in the past. At Adoption Choices of Nevada, we are here to tell you Yes! It is okay to start a family after choosing adoption. Adoption Choices of Nevada has provided adoption services across Nevada since 2012.

Why Do Birth Mothers Choose Adoption?

For starters, any reason why a birth mother chooses an adoption in Nevada is valid. Birth mothers have a right to choose adoption. A pregnant woman is the one in control of the next steps in their adoption plan. Not only that but there is no set reason why birth mothers choose adoption. It all depends on the situation that they are in that leads them to choose adoption. For example, she does not want to parent.

Another reason could be that the birth mother may not be able to afford to raise a child. Or, she might have a complicated relationship with the birth father. For example, he walked out of their lives, he is not supportive, or he chose not to be involved. Another possibility could be that the birth mother is not ready for parenthood, which is 100% okay. Parenthood is a big step to take. It can be a hard journey to go through for most birth mothers.

What Unexpected Emotions Might I Experience After Adoption?

As stated earlier, the adoption process can make the birth mother feel many emotions. This includes after the adoption has been finalized. Given the situation that led to the adoption, some birth mothers feel relieved that the process is over. She might feel happy that the child is officially placed with their adoptive family.

Other birth mothers may feel sad for plenty of reasons. For example, they might’ve had an emotional bond with the child. Or she might feel sad that the child will not be raised by their biological mother. Or they might feel guilty or regretful that they were giving up a child for adoption. There are even times when birth mothers wish they could have their child back. All these emotions are okay to have, but we do provide counseling if it gets hard.

Adoption may have been a difficult decision to make. But it is something that you shouldn’t be ashamed of!

Can I Still Have A Family After Choosing Adoption?

Yes, you can still have a family after choosing adoption. Whether it is an adoption in Las Vegas or Washoe county adoption. Some birth mothers feel that since they’ve had a chance at starting a family, but chose a Nevada adoption, they’re not allowed to start a family of their own. That is completely incorrect.

If you know that you are 100% ready to be a mother and are able to take care of a child financially, emotionally, physically, and mentally, then you are more than capable of starting a family. As stated previously, parenthood is a big step to take, and it can be a hard journey to go through for most birth mothers. As a birth mother, if you are ready to take on parenthood, you can start a family.
