What Will Be Included in Adoption Post-Placement Services?
By Jessica Hall
It’s good to have options when it comes to adoption, but sometimes it may feel overwhelming. As an expecting mother, giving a baby up for adoption may be a completely unfamiliar process you never thought you’d ever have to consider. But you’re here, and we’re here to help. Adoption Choices of Nevada is an agency that provides extensive help throughout pregnancy and post-placement services. From financial assistance to support groups, we want you to feel safe and provided for a while under our care.
Financial Assistance During Adoption
Adoption Choices of Nevada offers financial assistance throughout the adoption process and during post-placement for eligible birth mothers.
This does not mean that birth mothers are paid for the adoption itself. Instead, financial assistance means that birth mothers receive help with obtaining necessities. This could include things such as ensuring the birth mother has a safe home and food to eat by helping her with rent and groceries. It could even extend to paying her bills, including her phone bills, or buying comfortable maternity clothes, so she has properly-fitted clothing to wear.
Medical Coverage
When starting an adoption plan, it’s important to consider including regular check-ups with a medical professional to maintain the health of the birth mother and the baby. Consistently seeing a doctor may help reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy for both the expecting mother and the infant. This also gives the opportunity for birth mothers to express any concerns to a professional who is qualified to answer and safely prescribe any necessary medication.
This medical care is available post-placement to eligible birth mothers. If any complications arise after giving birth, we want to make sure you receive the care you need. Of course, if any other qualifying medical issues arise while under our care, we’d be happy to cover these costs as well.
Counseling Services and Adoption Support
Giving up a child for adoption can be a very emotional journey for many birth mothers. We want you to know that choosing adoption is an act of love. Birth mothers have to consider not just what’s best for them but what’s best for the baby, and that’s not always an easy choice to make.
Many counselor resources are available to you at our adoption center, each of whom is familiar with the adoption process and the emotional toll it can take. We want you to be open and honest with us. It’s okay to have struggles. It’s normal to feel down some days.
Keeping an open line of communication allows us to point you in the right direction, so you’re able to talk to an unbiased professional. All costs related to these sessions are completely covered by Adoption Choices of Nevada.
Find Connections in Adoption Support Groups
If you feel like you’d benefit from meeting other birth mothers who completed a baby adoption in Reno, we have amazing support groups that you can join post-placement. Many birth mothers experience the same feelings and difficulties from experiencing an unexpected pregnancy, so sometimes hearing the stories of others helps them feel like they’re not alone. Common challenges include:
- Feelings of grief or loss after the adoption is complete, even in open or semi-open cases.
- Inability to give up the role of “mother” when the adopted child is around.
- Trouble maintaining relationships outside of the adoptive family, including with friends and family.
As an adoption agency, we know that it’s important for birth mothers to feel cared for and cared for. It’s important to feel understood, and many people like you would love to share their experiences.
