Well, Mother’s Day proper has come and gone. But, at Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Reno, we celebrate intended mothers throughout the whole year! Since our world is currently still under the gigantic thumb of COVID-19, you’re probably still spending your time at home like we are. Cleaning, cooking and watching all of what Netflix has to offer. 

There are some titles, though, that intended mothers should be on the lookout for whenever you have some downtime. For your convenience, we’ve compiled a list of films for you to have a look at. Here are some movies for intended mothers to watch:

The Guys Next Door

  • What’s It About?

After seeing a television show about the high price tags and hardships linked to gay couples having children, Rachel decides to become a gestational carrier herself. At age 41, she reaches out to her college friend, Erik, and volunteers to help him and his husband, Sandro, grow their family. She does this amazing kindness for them not once, but twice. Introducing us to Rachel during the eighth month of her second surrogacy, this film touches on what makes a person choose to become a gestational carrier for someone else.

There’s no doubt that the amount of selflessness that goes into becoming a gestational carrier, and this documentary is amazing at showing that. It also does a great job at showing what it’s like to be an intended parent. There is so much love going around in this film, and only good can come from watching it.

Made In Boise

  • What’s It About?

Four gestational carriers in Boise, ID, the unofficial surrogacy capital of the world,

navigate their way through the gestational surrogacy journey. The audience acquaints 

themselves with these women as they prepare themselves for the unique journey that is

pregnancy. We watch as their relationships with their matched intended parents grow,

and how their own families react to the situation.

Like The Guys Next Door, Made In Boise helps its audience understand the highs and lows of being a gestational carrier. While, of course, every surrogacy journey is different, it can only do an intended mother good to see what the other side of the journey is like.

My Future Baby

  • What’s It About?

Another documentary on our list, this takes the audience to Santa Monica Fertility, where fertility expert, Dr. John Jain, explains the latest progressions (as of 2012) in fertility choices and processes. As you get to know the medical side of things, you also get to know women and couples who are undergoing fertility treatments. 

  • Why It’s Good for Intended Mothers to Watch

This is a super informative look into infertility, and the treatment of it. While it may be a little difficult to watch at times, you’ll be able to get a firmer grasp on the science behind the treatments. It’s always nice to learn something while you watch!

Baby Mama

  • What’s It About?

While this is certainly not the most accurate take on surrogacy, it is a fun way to spend a couple of hours. Kate, played by Tina Fey, is a successful business woman who is now able to care for a child. The only issue is, she can’t have one of her own. Enter Amy Poehler’s character, Angie, who agrees to become a surrogate for Kate. Through a series of hilarious situations, the audience finds themselves in an Oscar and Felix-esque romp.

  • Why It’s Good for Intended Mothers to Watch 

Again, this is not meant to be taken as a guide on gestational surrogacy. It is, however, a light-hearted comedy to get your spirits up during these uncertain times. As an intended mother, you’ll probably identify with Fey’s impatience in having a child in her life. Also, with Saturday Night Live alumni helming the film, you’re certain to have at least three belly laughs.
