Ways to Bond With Your Gestational Carrier

Ways to Bond With Your Gestational Carrier

If you’re at the matching stage of your gestational surrogacy journey, you may be a little bit nervous. After all, the person you’re matched with will be a part of your life for a pretty substantial amount of time! You hear all the time about success stories; gestational carriers and intended parents who become extremely close, and form lifelong friendships. For some lucky matches, they get along instantly. The bond was already there, they only needed to discover it themselves. For others, there needs to be a bit of work put in to create that connection. If you’re finding yourself in the latter category, or if you just need some extra ideas, then you’ve come to the right place. This week, Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Reno will be exploring different ways to bond with your gestational carrier.

“Getting to Know You”

It may seem like a basic piece of advice, but we’ve all got to start somewhere! Relationships of any kind are all absolutely dependent on creating a solid base for communication. The relationship you build with your gestational carrier is no exception. So, when you’re in the fledgling stages of your new acquaintanceship, the best thing you can do is talk. Ask your gestational carrier about herself. What are her likes? Dislikes? What sort of music does she listen to? What movies does she turn to when she’s feeling joyous? It doesn’t have to be all about what’s brought the two of you together.

Remember, however, to keep it light and easy. You don’t want to turn the first few meetings into interrogation sessions. You’ll have plenty of time to get to know one another better in the coming months. Just be yourself, be patient, and be open to your carrier asking youquestions. Every relationship is a two-way street, after all, and your carrier may very well be as nervous about this process as you are.

Family-Friendly Activities

As you’re getting to know one another, you’ll probably want to get out of the house every now and again. After all, spending all of your time in one place can get to be stale after a while. So, treat yourselves to some sunshine, stretch your legs and get out of the house!

Since gestational carriers are typically required to have had at least one successful pregnancy prior to becoming a carrier, it’s safe to assume that they have a family of their own. That said, you may look towards having a family-friendly activity day. Not only is it a great way to get some quality time in with your gestational carrier, but you can also get some pre-parenting child advice. As a bonus, all of you spending time with one another may help your carrier’s child(ren) understand what exactly their mother is doing for your family.

If you’re looking for some family-friendly activities to do in the Reno/Tahoe area, a great idea for a day of adventure is Animal Ark. It’s a wildlife sanctuary that is dedicated to providing a home for non-releasable wildlife, as well as educating people about their animals. Located north of Reno, it has gorgeous animals to admire and 38 acres of property to explore. Give it a look! It’s worth every minute!

For those of you who are still a bit uneasy with going out into the world due to COVID-19 concerns, fear not! There are plenty of activities that you can do in the solace of your own home. A great way to get some time in with your gestational carrier and her family is to host a social distance lunch or a dinner. However, instead of a standard sit-down dinner, you could try one with a theme… perhaps a superhero lunch, where everyone dresses as their favorite hero. This helps your carrier’s child(ren) feel included in the bonding, and it’s just a fun way to get to know one another a little better!

Intended Parents and Gestational Carrier Relationships

There are many ways to bond with your carrier. Keep in mind, however, that like every pregnancy, every relationship is different. You and your gestational carrier may not form a bond as tight as others, and that’s okay! You’ll know what works for the two of you once you get to know one another a little bit.
