Who Will Help Me Create an Adoption Plan in Las Vegas?

By Shannon Reilly

When it comes to placing your baby up for adoption, you must have a million questions. You have been led to this article by searching things like “Adoption agency near me” or “Vegas Adoption” while looking for answers to these many questions running through your mind. One of the main ones that may pop into your head would be, “who will help you place the baby up for adoption” and what that process entails? We understand how this may be a confusing and stressful time for you as you face your unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Adoption Choices of Nevada is here to explain how to put a child up for adoption.

What is the Las Vegas Adoption Process?

The adoption process may vary from state to state, but it is a straightforward process in Nevada. The first thing you will need to do when considering a Vegas Adoption is to give Adoption Choices of Nevada a call, text, or email and set up an initial appointment with one of our birth parent counselors. Once this initial appointment is set, you will discuss creating an adoption plan. Once the adoption plan is set and accommodates your specific needs, you will choose an adoptive family. You will then be offered financial and emotional support for the remainder of your pregnancy and even after the birth and finalization of an adoption. Once all of this is done, you will continue living your life until the time for delivery and legally signing away your parental rights comes.

Creating Your Adoption Plan in Vegas

When creating an adoption plan with your birth parent counselor here at Adoption Choices of Nevada, you will be in full control and be offered support for all of your needs during this difficult time. The first step in creating your adoption plan is to decide which type of adoption is best for you and your unborn child. There are three different types of adoption that you could move forward with: open adoption, semi-open adoption, and closed adoption.

Open Adoption

Open adoption is where you will have open contact and personal information shared with you about the adoptive parents. This contact occurs throughout the remainder of your pregnancy and along with the adoptive parents, you will decided on the extent of contact you will have with them as well as the child after the birth. Things such as set in-person meetings or even virtual calls can occur throughout the course of the child’s life, all depending on what you and the adoptive parents are both comfortable with and agree to.

Semi-Open Adoption

Semi-open adoption is the best choice for you if you do not want to be directly involved in the child’s life, but do not want complete closure either. This option gives the opportunity for communication but it will not be direct, and you will most likely not see the child in person after the adoption is finalized. Some examples of contact between the child and the adoptive family would be them sending updates such as photos or letters. If you would like to be updated on the progress of your child’s life but not be directly involved, this may be the right choice for you.

Closed Adoption

Closed adoption is the best decision to make for you if you would like full closure when giving up a child for adoption. There is absolutely no personal information shared between you and the birth parents and there is essentially no contact of any kind between you and the birth parent throughout your pregnancy. There is also no contact between the two parties as well as the child after the adoption is finalized.

Choosing an Adoptive Family

After deciding which type of adoption best suits you and your situation, you will move on to choosing the adoptive family. Although this is not required, you do have the option to do so. Your assigned birth parent counselor will provide you with profiles of families in which you can choose from. These profiles contain things such as family history, careers, parenting styles, etc. Once this is done and you are set on a family, discussing what type of financial and emotional support you may need throughout your pregnancy and for some time after the birth will be next.

  • Financial Assistance: You will be offered assistance for things such as housing, helping to pay bills, and transportation to and from doctors’ appointments or work.
  • Medical: You will also be set up with some medical care and an OBGYN for regular appointments. We will also discuss a birth plan for you as well.
  • Adoption Counseling: You will be offered emotional support during and after your pregnancy. We understand this may be a difficult time and situation for you, and we will always have a counselor set up for you if you ever need this kind of support.
